I want to start counselling what’s the first step?
The first step is to contact me to arrange a brief phone call to book an appointment, verify health insurance coverage if applicable, and receive the Pre-counselling Questionnaire and Information Package.
What is the cost of therapy?
My fees are $140/hr for individuals and $150/hr for couples. Some people meet with me once a week, other people meet with me every other week or once a month. It all depends on your particular needs.
How do I pay for each counselling session?
Payments are made at the end of each session, unless we have another agreed upon arrangement. I accept Visa, Mastercard, cheque, cash and etransfer.
Are your services covered under my group health insurance?
Many health insurance plans cover the cost of counselling with a Registered Social Worker (RSW) with a Masters Degree (MSW). Plans vary, so I recommend you contact your insurance company to verify the extent of your coverage.
Is there anything I need to do to prepare for counselling?
After we speak on the phone you can complete the Pre-Counselling Questionnaire and review the Information Handout. The Pre-Counselling Questionnaire will ask you questions to start you thinking about counselling, what matters most to you and start you thinking about what you would like to get out of counselling. I invite you to complete the questionnaire, print it up, and bring it to your first appointment. The information package will give you lots of information about counselling and my office procedures.
What do I do when I get to your office?
My office is located on the upper floor of a beautiful converted century building in the heart of Old Whitby. For privacy and comfort, there is no sign on the house other than the house number 206. It is located on the north side of the street, midway between Centre Street and Byron Street. There should be free street parking in front of the office.
When you arrive for your appointment simply let yourself in and you will find a comfortable waiting room on the main floor. Please help yourself to tea and relax with some magazines while you wait. I will come down to greet you.
